The Prescott Pow Wow Committee was established as an Arizona 501(c)3 non – Profit Corporation in February of 2007. Their first social Pow Wow was held on May 26th and 27th, 2007 at the Oldest Rodeo grounds in Prescott AZ.
Today many Pow Wows have become competitive events that sometimes takes away from the spiritual realm of the gathering. Because of this we have chosen to keep our Pow Wow a social, contest-free event, where the public can come interact, dance and learn.
“Elders Embracing the Youth”
It is important to us to involve elders and the youth to come together, so we can ensure the culture to live on through the future generations. We do this by providing a mentor program throughout the Pow Wow. For every adult position will coincide a youth apprentice. These positions include:
Head Male Dancer (Head Boy)
Head Woman Dancer (Head Girl)
The Prescott Pow Wow Committee’s mission is to provide socio-cultural opportunities that bridge the inter-generational relationships between Native Youth and Elders. The “Elders Embracing Youth” Pow Wow provided a positive venus to support that mission. This was only possible because of thoughtful donations from (individuals, tribes, businesses and organizations) such as yourselves.
